How long can you live with advanced colon cancer?

Survival time for patients with advanced colon cancer is similar to that of other advanced cancers, and the determining factors mainly depend on the patient’s personal constitution, severity of the disease and treatment methods. Usually, the five-year survival rate of patients does not exceed 10%. Patients with advanced colon cancer usually cannot be cured, but some treatments can be used to control the tumor, improve patients’ quality of life and prolong their survival. In the case of left hemi colon cancer, the average survival of patients can be 2.5-3 years through chemotherapy combined with targeted drug treatment. If it is right hemicolectomy, the prognosis is worse and the average survival period is about 2 years. If there is colon cancer with distant liver metastasis, patients are in better health, tolerant to surgery and radiofrequency ablation and radiotherapy, and have better sensitivity, some patients may have relatively longer survival. However, if other acute complications appear in the late stage, their survival will drop dramatically and they may even die within days or weeks. Therefore, early detection and early treatment of colon cancer are extremely important to the survival and quality of life of patients. It is recommended that people with colitis, colonic masses and other high-risk groups should have regular checkups at the gastroenterology department of the hospital for early detection of abnormalities and timely treatment.
