How to do hydrocephalus shunt surgery

Hydrocephalus shunts are performed by puncturing the frontal horn of the right ventricle and tunneling subcutaneously to the drain placement and placing the shunt device.
Hydrocephalus shunts include ventriculoperitoneal shunts, ventriculo-leptocardiac shunts, and ventriculothoracic shunts.
A hydrocephalus shunt begins with skin preparation of the head and shaving of the area. Go in the operating room under general anesthesia, disinfect the head and the incision where the drain is placed, then puncture the frontal horn of the right ventricle in parallel with the subcutaneous tunnel to the left anti-macrocephalic point, the left auricle, the thoracic cavity, etc., and then place the shunt device. Finally, the incision is closed and the procedure is completed.
The principle of asepsis should be observed throughout the procedure, and the patient is advised to follow the doctor’s instructions for standardized postoperative care.
