The normal female breast is hemispherical with its upper border at the second rib, lower border at the sixth rib, near the middle border at the lateral sternal line and the outer border at the anterior axillary line. The normal breast weight is 250-350 g. Breasts that exceed this boundary and are larger than this weight are called hypertrophic breasts. Women with hypertrophic breasts and sagging breasts often suffer both physically and mentally. On the physical side, large breasts that often hang over the chest can cause patients to have neck and back pain, and even arthritis in the neck can occur. These women often need to tighten their bra straps in order to hold their sagging breasts up, resulting in deep grooves on the shoulders. Their voluntary or involuntary attempts to reduce the size of their oversized breasts without paying attention to maintaining proper balance and posture result in hunchback or chest deformity. Large breasts can also cause upper extremity neurological symptoms due to brachial plexus nerve compression. In addition, some women with large overhanging breasts have eczema, vesicles, and other skin diseases due to the skin of the submammary area being face-to-face with the skin of the chest and abdomen, which prevents sweat from evaporating. Mentally, such patients often have untold worries and pains, they are often troubled by the perceptions and comments about her breasts, and their low self-esteem and shyness make them reluctant to participate in social activities, to swim and do physical exercises, and especially to spend their summers. Large or severely sagging breasts make women lose their proportional, slim curves and replace them with a thicker shape, making patients shy and suffer from unspeakable physical and psychological stress, and even lose their self-confidence and courage to participate in social life. Therefore, oversized breasts affect the physical and mental health of patients, we should give active treatment to patients with oversized breasts, according to the specific circumstances of each patient, using the most appropriate surgical methods, breast reduction surgery, early relief of patients’ pain.
