Digoxin Effects and Uses

Digoxin is used to treat high blood pressure, atrial fibrillation and other diseases. Usage is usually by mouth, with a difference in dosage between adults and children. 1.Digoxin is used to treat high blood pressure, valvular heart disease, atrial fibrillation and other diseases. (1) It is used to treat cardiac insufficiency, such as valvular heart disease, hypertension, and congenital heart disease. It is more effective in the treatment of cardiac insufficiency with atrial fibrillation accompanied by rapid ventricular rate; it is less effective in the treatment of cardiac insufficiency caused by pulmonary heart disease, low thyroid function, and so on. (2) It is used to control atrial fibrillation with fast ventricular rate and supraventricular tachycardia. 2. Usage and dosage are different for adults and children. (1) Adults 0.125~0.5mg each time, once a day. (2) 0.02~0.03㎎/kg for preterm infants; neonates under 1 month and children 2~5 years old increase 0.01mg per kg; 5~10 years old, 0.02~0.035/kg; above 10 years old, the dosage is the same as that of adults. 3.Common adverse reactions include nausea, vomiting, abdominal pain, blurred vision and so on. It is forbidden to be used in those who are poisoned by digitalis preparations, forbidden to be combined with calcium injection.
