How to treat periodontitis

Periodontitis is a chronic inflammation of periodontal tissues caused by local factors, and corresponding treatment measures are taken for different symptoms, including local treatment and systemic treatment.
1. For local irritating factors: first of all, the cause needs to be eliminated. If it is caused by dental calculus, ultrasonic scaling or scraping can be carried out to eliminate food impaction and correct bad restorations.
2. Treatment of periodontal pockets: periodontitis may lead to the occurrence of periodontal pockets. If the periodontal pockets are overflowing with pus, it is necessary to remove the local irritating factors, use 1% to 3% hydrogen peroxide solution to rinse, the shallower periodontal pockets can be cauterized with iodophenol solution, and the deeper periodontal pockets need to be eliminated by surgery to eliminate periodontitis. If the periodontal pockets are more serious, deep to the root tip or the teeth loose obviously, can consider extracting the teeth after filling.
3. Fixation of loose teeth: Periodontitis may cause loose teeth, temporary or permanent periodontal splinting can be performed to fix the loose teeth.
4. Treatment of periodontal abscess: If there is abscess formation, it can be incised and drained and the area can be irrigated.
5. Systemic treatment: patients need to improve the body’s resistance, if a periodontal abscess occurs, patients with heavy systemic reactions, such as fever, should be orally antibacterial drugs, commonly used drugs include metronidazole, amoxicillin and so on.
