Do you have to have a hysteroscopy for a thick lining?

Thickness of the lining does not necessarily require hysteroscopy. If the patient has only had one episode of excessive lining thickness, it is recommended that an ultrasound be performed to review the lining after the menstrual period has cleared. If the patient still has endometrial thickening after menstruation, it may be caused by a disease such as endometrial hyperplasia, then hysteroscopy is needed. Thickness of the endometrium is a result of the ultrasound, and if the patient has only one exam showing a thick endometrium, hysteroscopy is usually not necessary. It is recommended that the patient undergoes another ultrasound after the next menstrual period, and if the endometrial thickness returns to normal, a hysteroscopy is not necessary. If the patient’s ultrasound results after menstruation are still suggestive of endometrial thickening, a hysteroscopy is needed to further clarify the presence of endometrial hyperplasia or endometrial cancer, which can help the patient examine the specific cause of the condition. Patients with thick endometrium do not necessarily need to undergo hysteroscopy, but it is recommended if the patient still has a thick endometrium after menstruation.
