How to Remove Surgical Threads

Clinically, according to the different ways of patients’ surgical incision sutures, the method of removing sutures is also different. First, for the neck and chest incisions, often absorbable protein sutures can be used for incision closure, sutures 2-3 weeks after the absorbable protein sutures can be self-absorbing, do not need to carry out wound removal treatment. Secondly, if ordinary absorbable silk thread is used for intradermal wound closure, when the wound is completely healed, the thread can be removed by cutting the thread at one end of the incision and slowly pulling out the absorbable thread on the other side of the incision. When removing the suture, the action should be gentle to avoid excessive force causing the absorbable thread to break and remain in the skin, causing allergic reactions. If non-absorbable thread is used for intermittent suturing of the incision, it is necessary to lift the thread knot when removing the thread, cut the thread at the root of the thread, and slowly pull out the thread, avoiding rough force to avoid cutting the skin and causing pain.
