The person whose basal metabolic rate is being tested must be well rested and should not be influenced by environmental, food, emotional and mental factors during the measurement. Because the basal metabolic rate is affected by the ambient temperature, the room temperature should be maintained at about 20°C. A measurement of plus or minus 15% of the normal value is considered normal. The basal metabolic rate increases when the body temperature increases and decreases when the body temperature decreases or when there is poor nutrition. For every 1℃ increase in body temperature, the basal metabolic rate will increase by 13%, which is in the general state. Therefore, when we measure the basal metabolic rate, we must pay attention to the surrounding environment, the patient’s thinking, the body temperature and the mildness of the disease situation.
