Povidone-iodine is a skin disinfectant and is not generally used to treat gray nails.
The scientific name for gray nails is onychomycosis, which is caused by a fungus that infects the onychomycosis at the root of the nail, and is somewhat contagious. Although povidone-iodine can be used to destroy the fungus, the penetration of povidone-iodine is weak, and nails with onychomycosis tend to have symptoms of thickening and shape change, so povidone-iodine is difficult to act on the nail mother, and is therefore less effective in treating onychomycosis.
Patients suffering from onychomycosis should first go to the dermatology department of the hospital to get a clear diagnosis and then use medication according to the doctor’s prescription. It can be treated with topical medications such as amorolfine application and povidone-iodine application, or oral antifungal medications such as itraconazole capsules and terbinafine hydrochloride tablets.
If you have gray toenails on your feet, you should keep your skin dry, keep your feet clean, wash them several times a day, change your socks frequently, use the foot basin and towel separately to avoid infecting others, go to the hospital if necessary, and avoid self-medication.
