The number of days to be discharged from the hospital after hydrocele surgery in children depends on the type of surgery. The surgical methods that can be used for hydrocele in children are open surgery, laparoscopic surgery and robot-assisted laparoscopic surgery. The usual hospitalization time for open surgery is around 14 days, while laparoscopic surgery has a relatively shorter hospitalization time due to its minimally invasive nature, and can usually be discharged successfully in around 7 days. Robotic-assisted laparoscopic surgery usually resolves the problem in about 1 week and the child can go home to recuperate. Because ureteroplasty involves the use of very fine sutures for the anastomosis, discharge from the hospital is only the first step in the recovery process, and better postoperative care is needed to enable the child to recover as quickly as possible. After the anastomosis, the double J-tube should be left in place, and the time of removing the double J-tube should be decided according to the specific situation, in order to minimize the problem of postoperative ureteral restenosis. Therefore, how many days a child needs to be hospitalized for hydrocele surgery depends on the situation.
