How to relieve pain from keratitis

Keratitis can be relieved by applying cold compresses or medication as prescribed by your doctor.
1. Cold compresses: placing an ice towel or other cooler temperature object over the eye can reduce the sensitivity of the nerves in the eye, thus relieving the pain.
2. Medication: Keratitis requires different medications depending on the type of causative organism to relieve pain by treating the cause of the disease. Bacterial conjunctivitis is usually treated with antibiotics such as levofloxacin and erythromycin. Viral conjunctivitis is treated with antiviral drugs such as acyclovir. If the pain is severe, non-steroidal anti-inflammatory analgesics such as ibuprofen may also be used for relief.
Patients with keratitis should follow the doctor’s instructions for medication or other methods to relieve symptoms, and should not use medication without authorization.
