What are the dangers of chronic insomnia?

Sleep takes up about one-third of our life time. Through sleep, people’s mental and organismal state is restored and they can put into study and life with more energy. Long-term insomnia, on the other hand, seriously affects people’s quality of life and work efficiency. Long-term insomnia causes people’s daytime dysfunction and symptoms such as daytime fatigue, sleepiness, napping, poor energy, slow reaction, ataxia, decreased judgment, blurred consciousness and mental disorders. Long-term insomnia can also cause body dysfunction and immune system decline, which not only induces some acute and chronic diseases, such as hypertension, coronary heart disease, heart failure and other cardiovascular diseases, but also relates to the treatment and prognosis of the disease. Long-term sleep deprivation in women not only leads to an increased chance of disease, but also greatly increases the incidence of breast cancer, uterine fibroids and other diseases due to excessive secretion of estrogen caused by long-term insomnia. Sleep deprivation in adolescents can lead to insufficient secretion of growth hormone and thus affect physical development. Long-term insomnia is often accompanied by mental disorders such as anxiety and depression, which in turn can affect sleep, forming a vicious circle that can lead to depression and other mental disorders in severe cases.
