Chuan Bei, or Sichuan Pai Mu, has the effects of clearing heat and moistening the lungs (removing heat to moisturize the lungs), resolving phlegm and relieving cough, and dispersing knots and eliminating carbuncles (evacuating knots and eliminating carbuncles and poisons), and is effective in treating lung-heat and dry coughs and dry coughs with little phlegm. With a bitter, sweet taste and slightly cold nature, Chuanbei Mu (川贝母) belongs to the lung and heart meridians and has the effects of clearing heat and moistening the lungs (removing heat to nourish the lungs), resolving phlegm and relieving cough and dispersing knots and eliminating carbuncles (evacuating knots and eliminating carbuncles and poisons). It can be used to treat lung-heat dry cough, dry cough with little sputum, cough due to yin deficiency, cough with blood in sputum, scrofula (mainly refers to tuberculosis of lymph nodes in the neck), breast carbuncle and carbuncle. It is often combined with Zhimu to clear qi and nourish yin; with Scutellaria baicalensis and Rhizoma Coptidis to clear phlegm and reduce fire; and with Angelica sinensis and Paeonia lactiflora to regulate qi and camping. In clinical practice, it should be noted that Chuan Beimu should not be used with Chuan Wu, Prepared Chuan Wu, Cao Wu, Prepared Ge Wu, and Pian Zi. The drug should be taken according to the doctor’s instructions, and should not be used on its own.
