Herbal remedies for ulcerative colitis

Ulcerative colitis belongs to the categories of “abdominal pain” and “diarrhea” in traditional Chinese medicine, and can be treated with Chinese medicines such as Pueraria Mirifica and Lianlian Tang, Radix Rehmanniae Ziziphi Tang, and Essentials of Painful Diarrhea according to the specific patterns of the disease.
1. Puerariae Radix Scutellariae Lian Lian Tang: composed of Puerariae Radix, Scutellariae Radix and Rhizoma Coptidis, it has the efficacy of relieving the exterior and clearing the interior, and it can be used to treat intestinal dampness-heat patients with yellowish-brown, smelly fecal matter, burning heat in the anus, and yellowish greasy fur on the red tongue. It is forbidden to use this medicine for patients with deficiency-cold syndrome.
2. Radix Rehmanniae Tong: composed of licorice, ginseng, atractylodes, artemisia, artillery ginger, and Radix Rehmanniae, it has the efficacy of warming the middle and dispersing the cold (dispersing the cold with medicine that warms the spleen and stomach), and it can be used for treating patients with intestinal tinnitus and diarrhea, and patients with deficiency-cold syndrome of spleen and stomach, and the contraindications are not yet clear.
3. Essential Formula for Painful Diarrhea: composed of Atractylodes macrocephala, Radix Paeoniae Alba, Radix Paeoniae Lactiflorae, Fenghuang, and Pericarpium Citri Reticulatae, with the efficacy of dispersing the liver and regulating the spleen, it can be used for treating patients with spleen deficiency and liver exuberance with distension of the chest and hypochondrium, and stringy pulse; contraindications are not clear.
The above Chinese medicines can help relieve the symptoms of ulcerative colitis, but they are not a cure, and should be used in combination with Western medicine under the guidance of a doctor.
