Functions of granulation tissue

Fresh granulation tissue growth can be seen as the wound gradually recovers from the injury. The interior of the granulation tissue has more neovascularization and fibroblasts, as well as an infiltration of inflammatory cells. To the naked eye, the granulation tissue is bright red and granular. The function of the granulation tissue is mainly to fill and repair the wound, if the wound defect is relatively large, or if there is inflammation and infection inside the wound, the granulation tissue can play a role in filling the wound and helping the wound to heal. In addition, the granulation tissue also has a strong anti-infection effect, because there are many inflammatory cells within the granulation tissue, so the anti-infection effect is very strong, can absorb and decompose, eliminate infection, and can remove foreign bodies. It can also mechanize blood clots and necrotic tissue, creating conditions for wound healing.
