What to do if your leg swells after a fall

Swelling of the leg after a fall is mainly caused by soft tissue injury, ligament tear and fracture, and the treatment includes physical therapy, medication and surgery. 1. Physiotherapy: within 72 hours after the fall is the acute stage, if there is a break in the skin, you can choose the conventional iodophor to disinfect the wound; secondly, try to minimize the activities of the affected limb, and at the same time, elevate the affected limb to avoid further aggravation of edema. After 72 hours of relief, you can use hot towels or hot salt bags to apply hot compresses, massage the muscles of the calf area, microwave physiotherapy and other ways to accelerate the edema subside. 2. Drug therapy: acute edema if more obvious will cause pain symptoms, patients can take oral meloxicam, diclofenac sodium and other drugs to relieve pain; can also be taken orally dioxymethamphetamine tablets and other drugs to promote blood circulation in the lower limbs; can also be static drip mannitol, dexamethasone and other drugs to quickly reduce swelling. The above drugs should be used under the guidance of a doctor to avoid self-medication. 3. Surgery: For patients with ligament tear and fracture, it is recommended to consider surgery after braking and external fixation to perform ligament suture and fracture incision and internal fixation surgery. If the swelling of the injured limb is not relieved, or accompanied by other symptoms, you should go to the hospital in time to clarify the cause and give targeted treatment.
