Only a sore throat with no other symptoms is not necessarily a new type of pneumonia. Common influenza and parainfluenza virus infections can also present with symptoms of sore throat. Long-term smoking and excessive vocalization can cause symptoms of a sore throat. If a patient has recently been exposed to suspected or confirmed new coronavirus pneumonia and thereafter has symptoms of sore throat, it may also be novel coronavirus pneumonia, and the diagnosis can be clarified by routine blood tests, lung CT, nucleic acid test for new coronavirus, antibodies to new coronavirus and other related tests. The diagnosis of novel pneumonia can be confirmed if the patient presents with decreased white blood cells, significant interstitial lung changes, and a positive nucleic acid test for the new coronavirus.
