Dulcolax, or pethidine hydrochloride, is a synthetic opioid receptor agonist and belongs to the morphine analgesic class. Pregnant women who use Dulcolax, especially in early pregnancy, are at risk of fetal malformations. The use of Dulcolax also triggers uterine contractions, leading to miscarriage or preterm labor. Dulcolax also passes through the placental barrier into the fetus, which in severe cases can lead to conditions such as fetal circulatory depression. Therefore, the use of Dulcolax during pregnancy is very cautious and is best avoided to avoid jeopardizing the health of the mother and the fetus.
