What’s wrong with a weak and tender thumb?

Weakness and tenderness of the thumb may be caused by insufficient local blood supply, stenosing tenosynovitis, cervical spondylosis, radial nerve injury and other factors.
1. Insufficient local blood supply: If the thumb is insufficiently supplied with blood due to poor blood circulation for a long period of time, the phenomenon of weakness and tenderness may occur, but it can be relieved after a few moments of rest.
2. Stenosing tenosynovitis: mostly seen in people with more hand labor, chronic aseptic inflammation of the tendon sheath caused by mechanical friction, making extension and flexion limited, which may manifest the phenomenon of thumb weakness and tenderness.
3. Cervical spondylosis: due to long-term strain on the cervical spine, osteophytes and other factors make the vertebral artery pressure, sympathetic nerve stimulation, thus showing neck and back pain, stiffness and numbness of the limbs with inflexibility and other symptoms, can also appear the phenomenon of thumb weakness and tenderness.
4. Radial nerve injury: prolonged office or labor in the same position may damage the radial nerve, resulting in numbness and weakness of the thumb.
