Tuberculosis is safe only after several years of cure

There is no clinical statement that it is safe to be cured of tuberculosis for several years. Tuberculosis is prone to recurrence, and the cure can be determined by observing the patient for 6-12 months after the cure, while patients with poorer constitution need to be observed for 1-3 years after the cure to determine the cure and the disease contagion will gradually subside. Therefore, it is uncertain how many years after the cure of tuberculosis to be sure that the disease has been completely controlled, and should be analyzed according to the individual’s constitution. Tuberculosis can usually be treated with anti-tuberculosis drugs such as isoniazid and rifampin, and surgery should be chosen if drug treatment is ineffective, which is suitable for patients with hemoptysis, multiple drug-resistant thick-walled cavities, and tuberculous abscess chest. If the patient’s cough, sputum, fatigue, fever and other TB symptoms disappear, or CT and other auxiliary examinations show negative TB, then the patient is no longer infectious, but usually still needs standardized treatment to consolidate the treatment effect. However, for people with poor health, as well as patients with high risk factors for relapse such as older age, high sputum volume, side effects of medication, small body mass index, combined diabetes, hyperproteinemia, etc., there is a possibility of relapse, and the relapse rate is higher within 12 months after cure, so 1-3 years of observation is needed. For patients who have recovered from TB, to avoid relapse, they should quit smoking and alcohol in daily life, eat a light diet, consume more protein, and fresh vegetables and fruits to ensure balanced nutrition. Exercise can be increased appropriately, such as jogging, swimming, hiking, etc., to enhance physical fitness and reduce recurrence of the disease. Do basic protection, avoid going to the more polluted environment to avoid lung re-infection, monitor the lung condition regularly, and seek medical attention in time if there is any discomfort so as not to delay the condition and affect the health.
