Effects of Glipizide

Glipizide is a sulfonylurea type of glucose-lowering medication. Glipizide can be considered to lower blood sugar mainly for people with diabetes whose blood sugar is not well controlled after diet, exercise therapy or metformin alone. The most important side effect of glipizide is the occurrence of hypoglycemia, especially in elderly and frail patients, patients with irregular diet, long-term heavy alcohol consumption and patients with hepatic impairment, all of which are more common and need to be avoided. Some other side effects are gastrointestinal reactions, individual patients may experience nausea, abdominal distension, may reduce the dose, most can gradually adapt.
