Laryngeal muscle weakness is defined as a weak voice, vocal leakage, singing out of tune, inability to sustain speech, and hoarseness when speaking more than one word; examination reveals shortening of the vocal time, narrowing of the vocal range, bilateral retraction of the vocal folds, and incomplete closure. It is mostly seen in people with old age, kidney failure and overworked voice, and is mostly caused by lack of vital energy and strain on the laryngeal muscle, unlike myasthenia gravis or neuropathetic diseases. Vocal fold incompetence is a disease of vocal folds that is caused by insufficient movement of the laryngeal muscles during vocalization, as well as laryngeal muscle weakness and vocal fatigue. The reason is that excessive use of voice causes strain on the laryngeal articulatory muscles, especially the arytenoid muscle. If the laryngeal muscle activity is increased by forcing high voice for a long time, vocal fatigue will occur, and elderly people with weakness are also prone to this disease. Patients with laryngeal muscle weakness should pay attention to eating less cold food, avoiding cold foods such as capers, radish, mung beans, kelp, purple cabbage, watercress, watermelon, bitter gourd, etc., and do not eat food that is too difficult to digest, increasing the burden on the throat.
