The sensation of electric shock in the arms and legs when twisting the head is mostly seen in Lhermitte’s sign and multiple sclerosis.
1.Lhermitte’s sign: also known as anterior internuclear type oculomotor paralysis syndrome, medial longitudinal fasciculus syndrome, caused by damage to the medial longitudinal fasciculus at the level of the knee of the nerve. When the test result is positive, there is a feeling of electric shock in the hands and feet when twisting the head, the more rapid and powerful the neck flexion, the stronger the electric shock; if the neck flexion is slow, the electric shock is mild.
2. Multiple sclerosis: It is an autoimmune disease mainly characterized by inflammatory demyelinating lesions in the white matter of the central nervous system. Superficial sensory impairment can occur, manifested as pins and needles numbness in the limbs, trunk or face, abnormal limb chills, ants, itching, and sharp, burning pain and poorly localized sensory anomalies, and electric shock sensation in the hands and feet when twisting the head.
The feeling of electric shock in the hands and feet when twisting the head can also be seen in other diseases. If the electric sensation occurs frequently when twisting the head, it is recommended that the patient should go to the orthopedic department or neurology department of the local hospital for an active examination to find the cause of the disease, make a clear diagnosis, and intervene in the treatment as soon as possible.
