What are the consequences of atrophic gastritis

The consequence of atrophic gastritis is to evolve into gastric cancer, which is a malignant tumor of the stomach. If detected in time, such as early gastric cancer or gastric cancer without metastasis, the prognosis is good if given surgical treatment. However, after metastasis, the prognosis is very poor. Therefore, once patients have atrophic gastritis, they need to cooperate with doctors to give medication to prevent further development of gastric mucosa atrophy. If there is heterogeneous hyperplasia, that is, atypical hyperplasia, it is a precancerous lesion of gastric cancer. If it is only mild or moderate atypical hyperplasia, it may be reversed. However, once the pathological diagnosis of severe atypical hyperplasia is confirmed, 100% of the cases will develop into gastric cancer, which must be treated immediately with prophylactic surgery, and gastroscopic mucosal resection is mostly used nowadays.
