What is the prognosis for cirrhosis with loss of compensation?

The prognosis of patients with decompensated stage of liver cirrhosis is usually poor, depending on the individual’s physical condition, disease progression, genetic factors, and treatment effect. 1. Most of the patients with decompensated stage of liver cirrhosis will have esophagogastric fundus varices, decompensated liver function, splenomegaly and other manifestations. If it can be effectively controlled without further progress, the 5-year survival rate of patients can reach 50-70%. 2. If patients with decompensated stage of liver cirrhosis are combined with complications such as hepatorenal syndrome, hepatic encephalopathy, spontaneous peritonitis, large amount of ascites, repeated rupture and bleeding of esophagogastric fundus vein and so on, the prognosis is very poor, and even if they are given active treatments, the survival period may be relatively short, and they may endanger their lives due to sudden hemorrhage, infection and so on. 3. If liver transplantation can be performed on patients with decompensated cirrhosis, it may prolong the survival period of some non-viral cirrhotic patients, and some of them may not affect the normal life span of the patients. If a patient has been diagnosed with decompensated cirrhosis, it is recommended that he or she go to the hospital in time for targeted treatment under the guidance of a doctor to maximize life expectancy.
