TB pleurisy alone is not contagious because the chest cavity is an airtight cavity that cannot expel TB bacteria from the body. However, transmission can occur if TB pleurisy is combined with TB. Tuberculosis is a respiratory infection, and it is transmitted by sneezing, sputum, and also by loud speech, which expels bacteria into the air, and if droplets containing tuberculosis bacteria are inhaled, the tuberculosis enters the body. However, tuberculosis that occurs in the closed pleural cavity is not connected to the outside of the body and cannot discharge tuberculosis bacteria to other places, so simple tuberculous pleurisy is not infectious. Some patients with tuberculous pleurisy are accompanied by tuberculous lesions in the lungs, which may be infectious. Therefore, not all tuberculous diseases are infectious. In the course of treatment, patients are advised to undergo standardized anti-tuberculosis treatment for complete recovery from the disease so as not to affect lung function.
