In the formula, Atractylodes macrocephala and Chinese yam tonify the spleen and kidney, dispel dampness and turbidity, and stabilize the belt vein. Ginseng helps to replenish the spleen, Atractylodes macrocephala dries dampness and transports the spleen, Psyllium lubricates dampness and drains turbidity, and Bupleurum softens the liver and regulates the spleen as the subject medicines. Chenpi regulates qi and harmonizes the middle, Chaihu and black mustard spike are adjuvants, and licorice harmonizes all the medicines as the enabler. In addition, if there is dampness-heat and yellowish color under the belt, add cypress and gentian herb to clear heat and dry dampness (to remove heat and dry dampness); if there is cold-dampness and pain in the abdomen, add ginger and fennel to warm the middle part and disperse the cold (to warm the spleen and stomach to dispel cold); if there is lumbar and knee soreness and weakness, add eucommia bark and schizandra bark to replenish the liver and kidney; and if the disease has been slipping for a long time, add keel bone and oyster to strengthen the astringency and stop the belt. The adverse reactions and contraindications of Wan Dai Tang are not clear, it should be used under the guidance of a Chinese medicine practitioner’s diagnosis, and should not be used blindly on its own to avoid damage.
