Bowel sounds are a sign of what’s wrong

Bowel sounds may be due to physiological factors such as hunger. Abnormal bowel sounds also indicate the possible presence of acute gastroenteritis, gastrointestinal hemorrhage, mechanical intestinal obstruction, diarrhea and other diseases. 1. Active bowel sounds: acute gastroenteritis can lead to increased intestinal peristalsis and active bowel sounds. Hemorrhage in the stomach and duodenum can cause active bowel sounds. 2. Hyperactive bowel sounds: Tumor, Crohn’s disease, post-surgical intestinal adhesions and other causes of intestinal obstruction, there will be hyperactive bowel sounds. Diarrhea can lead to abnormal intestinal peristalsis, resulting in hyperactive bowel sounds. 3. Weakened or absent bowel sounds: When complete intestinal obstruction occurs, the gas and liquid in the intestinal tube cannot flow, resulting in the disappearance of bowel sounds. Patients with acute peritonitis may also have absent bowel sounds. It is recommended to go to the hospital if there is any abnormality in the bowel sounds.
