How to treat multiple thyroid nodules

The treatment of multiple thyroid nodules needs to be analyzed on a case-by-case basis. If the nodules are benign and there are no obvious symptoms, regular checkups are sufficient; if they are accompanied by abnormalities in the thyroid function or malignant nodules, it is recommended that they be treated as soon as possible, including surgery, which should be done under the guidance of a doctor. Thyroid nodules are usually detected during ultrasound examination of the neck. Multiple nodules are more common and mostly benign, while single nodules carry a higher risk of malignancy. If there are no obvious clinical symptoms, no specific treatment is usually needed, and regular review of thyroid ultrasound and thyroid function tests is sufficient. If multiple thyroid nodules are accompanied by abnormal thyroid function, such as hyperthyroidism or hypothyroidism. In this case, medication is needed for treatment. Patients with hyperthyroidism can be treated with propylthiouracil or methimazole. In case of hypothyroid patients, levothyroxine sodium can be taken for treatment. If the multiple thyroid nodules are relatively large, with localized compression symptoms, or if the thyroid nodules are malignant, this situation requires surgical treatment, with total thyroidectomy or simple nodule excision, depending on the condition. Patients with multiple thyroid nodules need to consult a doctor in time and follow the doctor’s instructions for treatment.
