Our department successfully performed the sacral nerve stimulation device (SNS) implantation for a patient who had been suffering from fecal incontinence for a long time, which is the first of its kind in China, and the patient recovered well after the operation. Fecal incontinence, or anal incontinence, is a condition in which feces and gas cannot be controlled at will and flow out of the anus involuntarily, resulting in a disorder of bowel function. The incidence of anal incontinence is not high, but not rare. Although it is not directly life-threatening, it causes physical and mental pain to patients and seriously interferes with normal life and work. Traditional treatments such as carrying absorbable pads and anal suppositories, sphincter repair and even colostomy, these treatments not only reduce the quality of life of patients, but also have poor long-term efficacy. In recent years, as colleagues at home and abroad continue to research and improve, a new minimally invasive treatment, sacral nerve stimulation therapy, has been proven to be a safe and effective method for the treatment of fecal incontinence. The incontinence symptoms and quality of life of patients with fecal incontinence have been significantly improved and enhanced after treatment, and it has the advantages of short operation time, high safety, self-regulation and good long-term efficacy.
