Sterilization of the navel of a child needs to be cleaned of secretions, disinfected and bandaged.
1. Clean up secretions: you can use the saline moistened cotton swabs, wet the navel secretion after dry secretions, and then clean up, fully expose the parts that need to be disinfected. Need to pay attention to the navel folds within the secretions should also be cleaned, not just clean the surface.
2. Disinfection: Use a cotton swab dipped in an appropriate amount of iodophor to disinfect in a clockwise direction from the inside out in a circle. After the povidone-iodine dries, repeat the above steps in an anti-clockwise direction and leave it to dry again.
3. Dressing: Other breathable sterile dressings such as gauze can be used to cover the navel to protect it from pathogenic bacteria.
In addition to newborns, under normal circumstances, the child’s navel does not need to be sterilized. However, if redness, swelling, elevated skin temperature, pain and other symptoms, parents are advised to take their children to the doctor in a timely manner, by a professional doctor to deal with. If infection occurs should follow the doctor’s advice to use medicine or take other treatment measures.
