Epilepsy is a seizure disorder. When it is not seizure disorder, it is generally no different from normal people and can work normally. Some occupations are prohibited for patients whose seizures are not fully controlled, including aircraft pilots, motor vehicle drivers, military personnel, marine police, divers, firefighters, crew members, surgeons, nurses and midwives, police officers, prison staff, and train drivers. Other occupations that are more dangerous for people with epilepsy include working at heights, working on water, exposure to high voltage, caring for infants and children, tour guides, exposure to unprotected machinery and equipment, close contact with traffic vehicles, exposure to chemicals, flammable substances and hot objects, and operating easily damaged equipment.
