What to do if your stomach bleeds

Gastric bleeding is caused by peptic ulcer, esophagogastric fundus varices and other diseases, which can be relieved by general treatment, medication such as omeprazole and growth inhibitor, and surgery. 1. General treatment: fasting and water fasting are generally required during the active period of gastric bleeding, and patients with large amount of bleeding should pay attention to replenishing body fluids. When in remission, patients can drink some hot water in moderation, and the diet should be based on fluids or semi-fluids with no or little slag, such as millet porridge, rotten noodles, egg custard, etc. Avoid eating cold, spicy and other stimulating foods, pay attention to rest, and avoid staying up late at night. 2. Drug treatment: patients can take acid-suppressing drugs such as omeprazole and ranitidine to inhibit the secretion of gastric acid and reduce the stimulation of gastric mucous membrane by gastric acid; take gastric mucous membrane protection drugs such as bismuth potassium citrate to repair the gastric mucous membrane and alleviate the damage of gastric mucous membrane caused by gastric acid and food; and use growth inhibiting hormone and posterior pituitary hormone for hemostatic treatment. 3. Surgery: If the patient has a large amount of bleeding, or if it is difficult to stop bleeding with medication, surgery can be considered. Patients with gastric bleeding are advised to consult a doctor in time to find out the cause of the bleeding and carry out targeted treatment. The medication should be taken in strict accordance with the doctor’s instructions, and should not be used on its own, so as not to delay or even aggravate the condition.
