Infusion of levofloxacin has the potential to interfere with sleep. Levofloxacin is a broad-spectrum antibiotic with antibacterial activity against both Gram-negative/positive bacteria and belongs to the quinolone class of drugs. This class of drugs can kill bacteria by inhibiting topoisomerase IV and DNA-promoting enzymes required for bacterial DNA replication, transcription, repair, and recombination, and is indicated for infections of the respiratory system, skin, and urinary system. Common adverse reactions to levofloxacin include dizziness, insomnia, diarrhea, headache, and nausea. Since insomnia has been reported in 4% of adverse reactions, sleep abnormalities after levofloxacin infusion may be an adverse reaction to the drug. Levofloxacin affects the central nervous system, with reports of insomnia, hallucinations, anxiety, depression, and severe headache in severe cases. Levofloxacin is contraindicated in people who are allergic to quinolones, pregnant women and children. It is used with caution in people with renal insufficiency. After the use of some uncomfortable symptoms should be timely feedback to the clinician, is conducive to the physician on the drug re-selection, dosage adjustment, etc., to help the patient’s condition recovery, to avoid the occurrence of adverse events.
