What to do if your white blood cells are repeatedly elevated

There are many factors for the repeated increase of white blood cells, such as bacterial infection, drug factors, hematologic tumors and so on. Different treatment plans are needed for different triggers. Bacterial infections can be treated with anti-infective therapy, drug factors can be reduced or discontinued to gradually restore white blood cells to normal, and hematological diseases need to be diagnosed by bone marrow aspiration, genetic testing and other specialized treatments.

1. Bacterial infection: when the patient’s white blood cells rise repeatedly combined with fever, cough and sputum, diarrhea and other symptoms of infection, it means that there are pathogens in the body, and need to use antibiotic drugs for treatment, such as amoxicillin, roxithromycin, acetaminophen and so on.

2. Drug factors: rheumatoid arthritis, dry syndrome and other immune connective tissue diseases, such as long-term use of glucocorticoid therapy, there can be a repeated increase in white blood cells, can follow the doctor’s instructions to reduce the drug, stop the drug, white blood cells can be generally restored to normal levels.

3. Tumors of blood system: leukemia, myelodysplastic syndromes, primary thrombocythemia and other blood system diseases can also cause leukocytosis. Bone marrow aspiration, flow cytometry and other tests are needed to confirm the diagnosis, and targeted drug therapy, such as vincristine, epirubicin, prednisolone, etc., should be carried out according to the type of blood system diseases.

Patients should not make self-diagnosis based on a single test result, and it is forbidden to blindly use medication on their own; they should consult a doctor in time and follow the doctor’s instructions.
