Should ferritin above 1000 be treated?

Ferritin above 1000 should be treated.

The normal value of ferritin should be <200ug/L for men and <150ug/L for women. ferritin higher than 1000, i.e. serum ferritin >1000ug/L, is a significantly elevated condition, which is more serious, and needs to be clarified and treated as soon as possible. Common causes of elevated serum ferritin include various inflammatory diseases, malignant tumors, blood diseases and other diseases.

1. Inflammation: respiratory, gastrointestinal or urinary tract infections, with symptoms such as fever, cough, diarrhea, frequent urination, urinary urgency, etc. Antibacterial drugs such as levofloxacin hydrochloride and cefprozil are generally needed for anti-infective treatment.

2. Malignant tumors: such as lymphoma, leukemia, serum ferritin elevation is more obvious, such diseases need chemotherapy.

3. Hematologic diseases: such as aplastic anemia, myelodysplastic syndromes and other diseases can lead to long-term severe anemia and the need for repeated blood transfusions, resulting in elevated ferritin. Such diseases can be treated with iron removal drugs, such as injectable deferoxamine mesylate and deferasirox dispersible tablets.

Ferritin higher than 1000 has more causes and requires treatment, it is recommended to visit the hospital in time to clarify the cause and give corresponding treatment. The above drugs should be used under the guidance of pharmacists and doctors.
