Scarring (keloid) is a condition associated with genetic factors that can leave scarring after minor trauma. You can initially determine whether you have keloid scarring by clinical symptoms. If the patient belongs to keloid, after minor trauma or acne or folliculitis, there may be local keloid bumps protruding out of the skin surface, which are red in color and gradually increase in size; itching and other discomforts may occur at the site of the keloid; and some patients may experience pain at the site of the keloid, which may lead to ulceration of the surface of the skin due to scratching. If any of these abnormalities occur, keloid scarring should be suspected and prompt medical attention should be sought. Family history, visual inspection and palpation can be used to diagnose whether the patient is keloid.
