The difference between Ba Zhen Wan and Shiquan Da Mending Pill lies in the composition of the medicines as well as their efficacy.
1. In terms of composition, Ba Zhen Wan is composed of Si Jun Zi Tang (Four Gentlemen Tang) and Si Wu Tang (Four Substances Tang), which contain eight herbs, including ginseng, licorice, atractylodes, poria, angelica sinensis, radix rehmanniae, rhizoma rhizoma, rhizoma ligustici chuanxiong, and Paeonia lactiflora. The Ten Complete Mending Pills are based on the Eight Treasures Pills with the addition of two more flavors, i.e. cinnamon and astragalus.
2. In terms of efficacy, both of them can replenish blood and benefit qi, and are mainly used to treat deficiency of qi and blood. The addition of cinnamon and astragalus to Shiquan Dachan Pill enhances the function of tonifying qi and warming yang, making yang qi rise while yin qi grows, and it is better at treating those who have deficiency in qi and blood but are cold.
