There is no such thing as the first medicine to tonify the spleen. Medicines for tonifying the spleen include Atractylodes macrocephala, Pericarpium Citri Reticulatae, Hawthorn, etc. However, the use of medicines should be under the guidance of a doctor. 1. Rhizoma Atractylodis Macrocephalae: It has the effects of strengthening the spleen and benefiting the qi, drying dampness and inducing diuresis (drying dampness and reducing water-dampness in the body), stopping sweating and stabilizing the fetus. It can be used clinically to treat deficiency of the spleen with low food intake, abdominal distension and diarrhea, oedema, spontaneous sweating (sweating involuntarily during the day, aggravated by sweating with the slightest movement) and restlessness of the fetus. 2. Pericarpium Citri Reticulatae: It has the effects of regulating qi and strengthening the spleen (regulating qi and strengthening the spleen), drying dampness and resolving phlegm (removing phlegm in the body by drying dampness), and can be used clinically for the treatment of distension and fullness in the epigastric region (abdomen), eating less and vomiting, coughing with excessive phlegm, etc. 3. Hawthorn: It has the effects of eliminating food and strengthening stomach (promoting food digestion and strengthening the function of stomach and internal organs), promoting qi and dispersing blood stasis, resolving turbidity and lowering fat (cleansing the body of impurities and reducing excess body fat). It can be used to treat stagnation of meat and food, stomach and epigastric distension, postpartum stasis, stabbing pain in the heart and abdomen, chest paralysis (chest pain) and heart pain. Caution should be exercised if the spleen and stomach are weak.
