Generally medication can only relieve the symptoms of pain caused by a herniated lumbar disc. The main medications used are topical medications, oral medications and infusion medications. Surgery is also needed when necessary.
1. Topical medication: For the treatment of lumbar disc herniation, lumbar muscle strain and lower limb pain, topical medication can be used, such as pain relieving cream, Qizheng pain relieving paste, diclofenac diethylamide cream. Topical Chinese medicines, such as fumigation and external cleansing with Turbinaria and Sclerocarya, are also effective in relieving pain.
2. Oral medication: Oral anti-inflammatory and analgesic medication can be used to relieve pain by taking non-steroidal anti-inflammatory and analgesic drugs such as ibuprofen and celecoxib, as well as proprietary Chinese medicines that activate blood circulation and remove blood stasis, such as root pain pills, which are not able to reduce pain by retracting the herniated nucleus pulposus of the lumbar discs. Meanwhile, oral methylcobalamin can also be used to treat herniated lumbar disc.
3. Infusion drugs: the herniated nucleus pulposus compresses the nerve root and causes edema, and infusion of mannitol and nerve-nutritional drugs have a good effect on relieving the pain.
When the pain of lumbar disc herniation is obvious, lumbar disc herniation patients are recommended to go to the hospital in time, and early formal treatment. All of the above medications should be used under the guidance of a doctor, avoid self-medication.
