Cephalosporins, especially first-generation cephalosporins, followed by nitroimidazoles and then nitrofurans, should never be taken after drinking alcohol. These drugs can affect the metabolism of ethanol and produce disulfiram-like reactions. Cephalosporins include: cefadroxil, cefazolin, cefradine, cefixime, cefprozil, etc.; nitroimidazoles include: metronidazole, ornidazole and tinidazole; nitrofurans include: furadantin, furazolidone, etc. Alcohol should not be consumed one week before or after taking these drugs. For other drugs, alcohol can also have different effects, therefore, it is recommended that alcohol should be prohibited while taking the drugs.
