Circumcision requires the use of local anesthesia. Local anesthesia requires the injection of anesthetic drugs at the root of the penis, the pain level of which is equal to the pain of intravenous infusion. The anesthesia lasts about an hour to two hours and is painless throughout the procedure, but a slight pain, similar to that of an injection, can gradually be felt two hours after the procedure. The duration peaks at about four hours, but the pain is mostly tolerable. Subsequently, frequent penile erections or congestion and edema can be experienced, which can lead to increased pain. At this point, pain relief can be achieved by taking oral pain medication or by intramuscular injection of pain medication. The pain is almost reduced or disappears after 24 hours after surgery. There may be slight pain during the wound dressing change, but the pain lasts about half an hour or so after the dressing change to relieve or disappear.
