Medicinal value of epiphyllum

Epiphyllum has medicinal values of moving qi and relieving pain (relieving pain by regulating the body’s qi), detoxifying and subduing swellings, and is used for stomach pains and acidity, dysentery, and other ailments. Epiphyllum is a traditional Chinese medicine for dysentery, feverish carbuncles, numbness of hands and feet and other conditions. Clinically, it is used in combination with Shi Wei to treat gas drenching, abdominal distension, fullness and stuffiness, etc. It is also used in combination with Drynaria and Hyssop to treat wind-heat toothache, pediatric chancre (a chronic disease of children, manifested as emaciation, abnormal diet, abdominal distension, and sparse yellowing of hair, etc.). Adverse effects, contraindications and precautions of Epiphyllum are not clear at present. If there is any discomfort, it is necessary to go to the hospital as soon as possible, and under the guidance of a Chinese medicine practitioner, individualized diagnosis and treatment plan should be formulated, so as to avoid delaying the condition.
