How to read hepatitis C test results

Hepatitis C is a blood-borne disease. If positive hepatitis C antibodies are found during clinical examination, further examination of liver function for HCV-RNA and ultrasound is required. HCV-RNA is considered positive by clinical tests greater than 25 IU/mL and positive by high-precision tests greater than 15 IU/mL. high-precision testing is recommended. If HCV-RNA is positive, regardless of whether the liver function is normal or not, antiviral treatment is needed. After treatment, HCV-RNA turns negative, but the antibody is usually persistently positive, and regular follow-up is needed to monitor whether there is recurrence. At present, the clinical application of DAA class drugs for oral treatment of hepatitis C replaces the side effects during interferon treatment, and has good efficacy and short course, and the drugs can be selected according to hepatitis C virus typing and the presence of cirrhosis to give effective treatment.
