Earlobe redness and thickening after ear piercing will heal in a few days

If there is no bleeding or discharge, the earlobe becomes red, swollen and thickened after ear piercing, it can generally improve in 2-3 days; if secondary infection occurs, anti-infection treatment with antibiotics is needed, and it can generally improve in a week. The redness and thickening of the earlobe after ear piercing is common in two cases, one is the soft tissue reaction after normal invasive operation and the other is caused by infection. Since ear piercing is an invasive operation that runs through the entire front and back of the earlobe, post-operative redness and thickening is a normal reaction. If the patient has no significant pain, bleeding or discharge, no special treatment is usually required and it will heal on its own after 2-3 days. However, if the patient has significant pain, blood leakage, or mucopurulent discharge when squeezing or turning the earring, in addition to the redness and swelling of the earlobe, this is usually due to a lack of strict aseptic practice. Patients need antibiotic anti-infection treatment, local disinfection with iodophor or hydrogen peroxide, and in severe cases, the studs need to be removed. In conclusion, ear piercing is an invasive operation, and patients should go to qualified medical or cosmetic institutions to have it done.
