Chai Hu Shuo Liver Essence is a traditional Chinese medicine formula composed of Chai Hu, Xiang Fu, Chuan Xiong, Citrus aurantium, Pericarpium Citri Reticulatae, Paeoniae Alba and Radix et Rhizoma Glycyrrhizae Praeparatae.
In this formula, Chai Hu Shu Liver Essence is a qi regulator, in which Chai Hu is good at dispersing the liver and relieving depression (treating depression by dispersing the liver’s qi), Xiang Fu can regulate qi and disperse the liver to relieve pain, Chuan Xiong can activate blood and promote the flow of qi to relieve pain, Chen Pi and Hovenia Citri roxburghii can regulate qi and move stagnation, and Paeonia lactiflora and Roasted Radix glycyrrhiza glabra can nourish blood and tenderize the liver, and alleviate the urgency of pain (relieving urgent pain symptoms).
The combination of the above herbs is effective in dispersing Liver-Qi stagnation (regulating stagnation of Liver-Qi), promoting Blood circulation and relieving pain (relieving pain by removing Blood stasis). This formula is indicated for symptoms of Liver-Qi stagnation (stagnation of Liver-Qi), such as pain in the ribs and wounds, fullness in the epigastrium (abdomen), depression and irritability, and stuffiness in the chest and sighing easily. This formula should not be taken for a long time.
