The liver meridian is found in both the left and right feet.
The Liver meridian is the Foot Syncopal Liver meridian, and its course is to start on the outside of the big finger of the foot, travel up the dorsum of the foot, 8 inches above the inner ankle, after traveling the Foot Taiyin and Spleen meridians, go up behind the knee joints, along the inner side of the thighs, enter into the pubic hairs, surround the pubic apparatus, go to the lower abdomen, go upward through the diaphragm, along the trachea, reach the larynx, connect to the eye system, and go upward to meet with the Directing Vessel on the top of the head.
Its branches either encircle the inner lips or connect with the lung meridian.
This meridian exists symmetrically, so that it is found on both the left and the right foot.
Lesions occurring in this meridian are mainly manifested as lumbar pain, hernia, dry throat, ashy complexion, chest fullness (distension and discomfort in the chest), vomiting, enuresis, and retention of urine (dribbling of urine or inability to urinate).
Acupuncture points on this meridian can treat liver and gallbladder disorders, such as jaundice and hernia; circulatory disorders, such as pain in the coarseness and ribs, pain in the lesser abdomen (abdomen); and gynecological disorders, such as menstrual disorders.
Patients should go to the hospital if they need treatment.
