A broken thumb tendon is completely curable. With the relatively high level of medical care nowadays, it is possible to restore the continuity of the tendon of the thumb by surgically suturing the tendon, which is usually done in a cast for about four weeks. After four weeks, the ruptured tendon can grow back, then the cast can be removed and the joint can be functionally exercised. Only in rare cases where the thumb tendon has been ruptured resulting in a defect that cannot be closed in one stage, a second stage tendon graft can be considered. After the soft tissue condition is improved and the tendon graft is done, the tendon rupture disease can be completely cured as long as the tendon can heal smoothly.
