Symptoms of weak spleen and stomach in men are the same as those of women, which may include poor appetite, diarrhea that comes and goes, loose stools, lethargy, and a yellowish complexion (a yellowish face with no luster). Weakness of the spleen and stomach is the name of a Chinese medical condition, which is mostly caused by too much thinking, old age and frailty, uncontrolled diet, and over-exertion. Weakness of the spleen and stomach in men is the same as that in women, with common manifestations such as loss of appetite, bloating after meals, loose stools, diarrhea that occurs and stops at times, thinness and weakness, yellowish color, mental fatigue, fatigue (mental exhaustion, physical fatigue), thin and white tongue coating, and weak and feeble pulse. The diet of those with weak spleen and stomach should not be too oily, and they should eat less or no cold food. For treatment, medicines for strengthening the spleen and resolving dampness (strengthening the spleen and getting rid of dampness) can be used. Commonly used proprietary Chinese medicines are e.g. Radix Rehmanniae Pills, Xiangsha Nourishing Stomach Pills, and prescriptions such as Six Gentlemen’s Tonic. The adverse reactions and contraindications of the above prescriptions are not clear. People with weak spleen and stomach who need to use medication should apply it under the guidance of a TCM practitioner, and should not take it on their own to avoid adverse consequences.
