Alkaline phosphatase is elevated for different reasons and can be brought down in different ways. Physiologic causes do not require special treatment; pathologic causes require treatment according to the cause. 1. Physiological causes: elevated alkaline phosphatase may be caused by children’s growth and development, pregnant women and taking too much high-fat food and other physiological causes. When the development is completed, after giving birth, and after adjusting the diet, alkaline phosphatase can usually return to normal on its own, and no special treatment is needed. 2. Pathological causes: elevated alkaline phosphatase may also be caused by rickets, osteochondrosis, bone malignant tumors, biliary obstruction, hepatocellular carcinoma, cirrhosis and other pathological causes. Further examination of abdominal ultrasound, abdominal CT, liver function, tumor markers and other items are needed to find out the cause, and then targeted drug or surgical treatment under the guidance of the doctor. High alkaline phosphatase should seek medical attention in time and be treated under doctor’s guidance.
